CBD Finds its Way into Many Lives During the COVID-19 Pandemic

We all go through hard times in our lives, and 2020 has proven to be a year we'd all like to forget. The outbreak of COVID-19 has made a lot of people suffer in many different ways. Worrying about finances, fear of getting infected, losing a loved one, or simply from the isolation factor. These are all struggles you might be feeling and looking for some emotional relief.

Well, there's no getting around the fact that CBD is officially everywhere. CBD or Cannabidiol, to some, is a very controversial term. Some say it is something related to marijuana and is illegal, and that's why it's always best to do your homework and be informed. It's true that some CBD solutions are mixed with THC and over the legal limit of THC content.  However, most CBD products can be THC free and completely natural solutions.

So, what is CBD, and how do we categorize it? CBD is a naturally occurring substance that is a derivative of hemp, which is like a cousin to marijuana, but it is not obtained from the same plant. Thus, it is a legal product and is nearly available everywhere. A key component to finding the right CBD is to make sure it has the USDA Certified Organic label on the packaging.  That gives you the comfort of knowing that you are consuming a truly certified organic product made and processed under the highest standards.

Why has the coronavirus caused us stress and anxiety?

World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 as a global pandemic, and its outbreak has changed the world as we know it. Many people have become unemployed, businesses faced downfall, and drastically reduced revenues for some. We've had to endure stay-at-home orders and isolation, and let's face it; this is something that some people are just not built to handle. Let's not forget the people that have lost their lives, family members, friends, colleagues, neighbors, etc. It will be inappropriate to say that this did not cause stress and anxiety and did not cause people to be genuinely panicked and depressed. According to the CDC, symptoms of anxiety disorder and depressive disorder increased considerably in the United States during April–June of 2020, compared with the same period in 2019.  During late June alone, the CDC reported that 40% of U.S. adults reported struggling with depression or substance abuse.  The impact of fear from COVID-19 and physical distancing has, without a doubt, taken a toll or our mental health.

How has CBD helped during the Pandemic?

CBD is one natural compound that is popular. Thus, its benefits are not unknown to most people. Several studies have suggested that CBD can have antidepressant-like effects as it shows an impact on the brain's natural receptors, which can give your mood a boost in a positive direction.

If you are someone who is dealing with an unsettled feeling during this state of affairs, you might find yourself trying or regularly consuming CBD. CBD may provide you calming effects and help you to relax naturally and legally.  However, it does not give you a feeling of the 'high' you get from THC.  Instead, CBD naturally affects your body and brain and can bring you back to your state of calm and help keep your mind in a positive state. It's not surprising that entering the self-isolation period impacts mental health, but thankfully CBD has helped people effectively get through it.

CBD benefits might also help to alleviate many physical side effects of stress, which can include:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Shakiness and weakness
  • Symptoms of the flight-or-fight response
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Inability to fall asleep
  • Trouble staying asleep
  • Muscle tension
  • Body aches

These symptoms may not be directly related to the Pandemic but more likely a result of stress or depression, possibly due to the Pandemic.

CBD during the Pandemic

When we talk about depression and anxiety, everyone has their way of dealing with it. People have responded to COVID-19 in different ways, but now, it's become top of mind for every person in the world. Stress and depression are psychological disorders that can lead to very drastic behavior or even death. Thus, it is always a best practice to deal with your depression or stress and face it head-on instead of finding a way to just live with it.

The popularity of CBD has risen incrementally since the Pandemic began. Certainly, Americans have turned to CBD since it's legal in most cities and states and readily available.  However, that's not to say that you don't have to be careful about what CBD you decide to use.  You need to make sure it's processed clean and a USDA Certified Organic product that has been 3rd party tested.  There are many imposters out there, do your research and please, always consult your Dr. before you start using any CBD product.
